Across the Highlands, clans gather beneath the Jacobite standard as Charles Edward Stuart attempts to reclaim the British throne for his father.
From remote glens to the streets of Edinburgh, Highlanders march south carrying broadswords, muskets, dirks and targes.
Their clothing is individual. Their tartans are drawn from surviving eighteenth-century patterns and documented references, before the later system of fixed clan tartans became established.
Highlander 1745 reimagines the men, weapons, landscapes and material culture of the Rising as a collection of 3,333 unique pixel Highlanders.
The collection uses surviving eighteenth-century textile references, period weapons and documented Highland dress as its foundation. Where the evidence is uncertain, it avoids presenting later romantic traditions as established fact.
